Great Expectations {Kemptville and Ottawa Maternity Photographer}

May 14th, 2012

There is something incredible about pregnant women, and something amazing about expectant parents: This couple is no different! They are fun, full of smiles, and all round great people! I had such a fun time capturing this special time in their lives! Lindsay and Phil, it was wonderful seeing the love between the two of you, I have no doubt that your baby is going to loved and cherished beyond imagination. Thank you for letting me be part of capturing this special time and I can’t wait to meet your Little One!

Saturday morning broke with bright sunshine, blue skies and a promise of a wonderful day. The afternoon, on the other hand, brought thick, dark clouds and some wind. I cannot lie: I was a bit worried. Just before our session, however, the sun peeked out and it turned out to be a soft and gentle evening for photos.

Don’t they just look so happy?

Perfect belly, I tell you! Perfect!

And last, but not least:

The Story of The Lost Tooth: Life Stories {Kemptville Child Photographer}

April 27th, 2012

There was great excitement in the home of the Richardsons this week. I had a different Life Story all planned out, but then LIFE happened (imagine!) and so I present the story of The Lost Tooth:

Joshua is 6 and he is my most dedicated toothbrusher: partly because he loves how clean his teeth feel, and partly because he loves his electric toothbrush. He is the one who regularly reminds everyone that “brushing our teeth is VERY important”!

For the longest time now he has been convinced that his teeth are feeling loose. He would wiggle them and tell me that they will soon come out. Upon inspection, however, it was clear that these teeth were not budging. It was with GREAT EXCITEMENT that a few weeks ago, the tooth DID budge and since then he was wiggling with renewed vigor.

Sunday was D-Day, the day of a happy boy and a gappy smile!

What is it all these life stories about, you might ask?
Ever see a photographer who starts out with a 365 day project, or even a 52 week project and never finishes? Yeah, me too. Well, I recently joined a group of a few other busy photographers who decided to commit to a 12 month project! If we fail this, we’ll be taking donations for a time management seminar. The best part is that it will be totally candid, lifestyle shots of each of our own families/lives. We don’t even have to dredge up random people or make our kids pose for us. We’re calling the series “The Story of ________” and we’ll each be filling in our own blanks. At the end of this post is a link to another photographer who participated and she’ll be linking to someone else. It’s a whole big circle of stories in pictures. Click through and enjoy!

Family: Live, Laugh, Love! {Ottawa Child and Family Photographer}

April 10th, 2012

A home filled with laugh and laughter is definitely something special! I spent a crazy, busy, wonderful afternoon with this fun family: A little girl who loves princesses, and jumping on the bed (only this once, of course!), a little boy with tons of energy, and a mom and dad who adore their children… what more could I have asked for?

Thank you for opening your home to me and giving me the opportunity to capture some precious moments!

A Helping Hand! Life Stories {Ottawa Child Photographer}

March 30th, 2012

I had great ideas for this month’s Life Story: I had plans to take my camera with us to the library or to take it with us when we go shopping; I thought about capturing the intense concentration in learning to read or the fun of riding a bike through squishy, squelchy mud. Instead I choose to show these. Two photos that I took in an unplanned moment – a moment where the love and trust of a little boy in his Daddy is just absolutely evident.

Sometimes when life looks like it is too hard or you feel like you can’t do it…..

…. all you need is for Someone to take your hand.

What is it all these life stories about, you might ask?

Welcome Spring! {Ottawa / Kemptville Child and Family Photographer}

March 19th, 2012

Its here! Its here! I bet I’m not the only excited one about Spring’s arrival! I know that there is a chance of more snow, but SPRING IS HERE! I bet you enjoyed this past weekend as much as we did: The glorious weather, the sunshine, the birds chirping. We went for long walks in the woods, had friends over, tried flying a kite in the gentle breeze (it doesn’t work so well :) ), ate our meals outside on the deck and picnic style.

I told my family this evening that it seems crazy to be eating outside when the trees are all bare and drab, but I love starting this summer-season outside family dinner time so early this year!

Despite the lack of greenery, it is warm enough to have a sword fight without wearing shirts!

Spring is almost more of a new beginning for me than New Year! Or maybe I just believe in second chances, because I find myself making New Year’s resolutions at the beginning of Spring. This year, my biggest resolution is to get more photos of me WITH my children. I worry too much about looking as good as I want to, not having lost the extra pounds; waiting for my hair to grow a little more, or buying that perfect outfit. The truth is I want my children to look back at photos and see ME, too – on the photos not just a vague memory of me holding the camera. I want the fun we have and our love for each other to not only be captured in their hearts.
What is your New Beginning’s resolution?

Home Is Where Your Story Begins… {Ottawa Baby and Family Photographer}

March 12th, 2012

It was an absolute pleasure to spend some time with George and his parents yesterday afternoon. Yes, George is indeed as happy and sweet as he looks; and his parents really are as in love with him! It was wonderful to see this love and to be part in capturing it!

Look at that little smile!

Tipsy Turvy Fun! Life Stories {Kemptville Child Photographer}

February 24th, 2012

The biggest benefit of my job is that I get to capture the fun, laughter, silliness, and unconditional love that is part of childhood. I adore how carefree children are. Even in the midst of “big” stuff, they still find joy in the things around them. Of course there are those pensive moments, and silent solitude, too, but for the most part the giggles, the belly laughs, the loud shouts, the big feelings and the snuggles make my heart sing!

In my own family it is no different. As you might know, or maybe not, I have the privilege of being Mom to a whole gaggle of children: 7 boisterous boys and 1 little girl who has everyone wrapped around her little finger. Our house is fun, crazy, noisy, quirky, and sometimes just plain topsy turvy! I love it!

Winter has been a little strange this year. My children have been most annoyed with the lack of deep snow, but this did not deter them from building this awesome snowman, though! He sadly started melting the very next day and 2 days later there was nothing left of him except the memories and these photos.

This is the 5h in a series of Life Stories. If you missed the first three installments, you can find them here:

Lego Boy {Kempville and Ottawa Child Photography}

February 19th, 2012

Daniel loves Lego. He loves building elaborate things, usually things like space ships or war planes. He loves sifting through our copious amounts of Lego to find just the right piece to complete, or at least get closer to completion, this vision he has in his head. The concentration he has in play is something remarkable, as are his creations.

When I saw the wonderful Lisa Lucky’s photo of her son surrounded by Lego, I knew this was something I wanted to recreate. I very, very rarely see something by another photographer and then use it to set up something exactly the same: Mostly because inspiration should not mean copying, but also because each child, each family and their connection is unique. Yet, I knew that Lisa’s photo was pure perfection and I wanted to try it with Daniel! This photo is the result of that.

Fire and Ice {Kemptville / Ottawa Child and Family Photographer}

February 5th, 2012

Not fire and ice as much as snow and a lively, fiery little girl! I had a wonderful time today with little miss M and her mom and baby sister! We sang (I did apologize in advance), we ran, we played and above all, we laughed! I woke up this morning and I was super excited to see the blue sky and the sun after a week of cloudy weather. Although it was chilly, it wasn’t freezing cold which was great.
Thank you for a super fun afternoon, M!

Seriously, how cute are these girls and their mom?

Time to warm up with a little hot chocolate!
